Help with Setting Up Samba on Linux

Image Hi everyone,

I’m trying to set up Samba on my Linux system to share files with Windows PCs. I’ve installed Samba and edited the smb.conf file to include a new share, but I’m having trouble accessing the share from my Windows machine.

Here’s what I’ve done so far:

  • Installed Samba using sudo apt-get install samba.
  • Configured smb.conf with the following share:
Copy to clipboard
[shared] path = /home/user/shared read only = no browsable = yes

  • Restarted Samba with sudo systemctl restart smbd.

I can see the share from Windows, but it asks for a username and password. I’ve created a Samba user with smbpasswd, but it still doesn’t work. Any ideas on what might be going wrong? I also checked out this blog: https://www.liquidweb.com/blog/how-to-install-samba-on-linux-windows-cpq/ but couldn't get required information.

Thanks in advance!
